Wood & Cedar Fencing in Southern New Hampshire
Custom Cedar & Wood Fencing Built for New Hampshire
At Crowe Fence & Deck, cedar is our primary material for custom wood fencing. We select quality cedar for its natural durability, workability, and timeless character — but material alone isn’t what defines the result.
Our full-time wood shop in Amherst, NH allows us to fabricate many of our classic New England fence styles in-house, blending traditional proportions with modern precision. From residential privacy and decorative picket fencing to commercial enclosures and estate boundaries, every system is built and installed by experienced crews who understand both craftsmanship and structural integrity.
We proudly serve Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts, delivering wood fencing that reflects attention to detail, consistency, and long-term value.
Natural Beauty. Built the Right Way.
Wood fencing offers warmth and character that manufactured materials cannot replicate. At Crowe Fence & Deck, that natural beauty is supported by disciplined construction methods and experienced craftsmanship.
Every wood fence begins with proper layout and structural post setting. Panels are assembled with careful attention to alignment, spacing, and proportion. These details determine how a fence performs years after installation, not just the day it is completed.
Many of our cedar styles are fabricated in our Amherst wood shop before installation, allowing us to maintain consistency and quality control from milling to final placement. Our full-time crews install every fence, never subcontractors, ensuring accountability at every stage of the project.
The result is wood fencing that reflects both tradition and structural integrity.
Types of Cedar & Wood Fencing
Wood fencing offers a wide range of styles, each serving a different purpose in terms of privacy, visibility, and architectural expression. Whether defining a backyard, framing a driveway, enclosing a commercial property, or outlining open land, we design and build wood fencing systems tailored to the application.
Our most common cedar styles include privacy fencing, semi-private configurations, decorative picket fencing, post and rail systems, and field fencing for agricultural or larger properties. While cedar is our primary material for residential installations, we also utilize pressure-treated posts and specialty materials where structural or agricultural applications require it.
Each style is built with attention to proportion, spacing, and structural integrity to ensure consistency across long fence runs and varied terrain.
Privacy Cedar Fencing
Privacy cedar fencing creates a fully enclosed outdoor space. This style is commonly used for backyards, pool areas, patios, property lines, and commercial screening applications where visual separation and security are priorities.
We build privacy fencing using premium cedar boards, available in traditional vertical layouts or horizontal configurations for a more contemporary appearance. Options include trim and cap options, lattice, and decorative toppers for architectural detail.
Semi Privacy Cedar Fencing
Semi-private cedar fencing offers filtered visibility and airflow while still establishing a defined boundary. Spaced board and lattice configurations allow light and breeze to pass through without fully closing the space.
This style is often selected for residential neighborhoods, driveway-facing sections, or transitions between privacy and open areas. Decorative lattice, spindle accents, and custom top profiles can be incorporated to enhance proportion and visual interest.
Built in-house with attention to spacing and alignment, semi-private fencing provides a balanced solution between enclosure and openness.
Cedar Picket Fencing
Cedar picket fencing delivers a timeless New England aesthetic with clean lines and customizable profiles. Common styles include dog-ear, pointed, straight-top, and our 2×2 Perfect Pyramid picket design.
Ideal for front yards, garden borders, and decorative property lines, picket fencing enhances curb appeal while maintaining openness and visibility. Proper spacing, proportion, and consistent layout are essential to achieving a refined finished look.
Our picket systems are fabricated in our Amherst wood shop, allowing us to maintain consistency across long runs and custom gate builds.
Post & Rail Wood Fencing
Post and rail wood fencing is one of the most versatile and widely used styles across Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts. From driveway framing and estate boundaries to rural properties and equestrian applications, post and rail systems create strong visual lines while maintaining open sightlines across the landscape.
We build a wide range of configurations, including 2-rail, 3-rail, and 4-rail systems. Western Red Cedar split rail remains one of the most popular rustic options, with each rail carrying its own natural variation in texture and form. For a more refined or structured appearance, we also fabricate square rail, diamond rail, and dimensional 4×4 rail systems.
Our post options include 5-inch round, 5-inch square, and 6-inch square profiles, along with specialty sizes when required. In addition to cedar, we install locust rails and posts for applications where increased density and longevity are desired. Round rail and wire-backed configurations are available for agricultural and field settings.
Field & AG Fencing
Field fencing is commonly used for larger properties, agricultural applications, and utility-focused boundaries. Systems may combine cedar rails with welded wire mesh or utilize pressure-treated posts where structural demands require it.
This category includes wire-backed configurations, and agricultural enclosures designed for livestock containment or perimeter definition.
While more utilitarian in purpose, field fencing is built with the same attention to layout, structural post setting, and long-term stability as our residential cedar systems.
Custom & Historic Fencing
Certain communities throughout Southern New Hampshire, including historic districts in towns such as Amherst, maintain strict architectural guidelines for fencing styles, proportions, and finishes. Many of these neighborhoods already feature Crowe-built fences, installed in accordance with local design requirements and zoning approvals.
Our in-house wood shop allows us to fabricate historically appropriate cedar fence styles that align with traditional New England proportions. In some cases, staining or finish selection must be reviewed prior to permit approval. We routinely prepare shop drawings, style documentation, and material submittals to support zoning applications and help streamline the approval process.
For properties requiring a specific aesthetic or compliance with historic district standards, Crowe Fence & Deck provides the craftsmanship, documentation, and experience necessary to move projects forward with confidence.
